Gargajiyamu

2025

This project serves as an ode to the culture that shaped the traditions passed down to us — traditions that transcend beyond borders and unify us across time. Garagjiyamu, meaning “our traditions” in Hausa, is a visual reflection of heritage, memory, and sisterhood. Through clothes and jewelry to ataya and marks of henna on our skin, this project honors the richness of West African culture. the ways our mothers, aunties, and grandmothers carried stories through fabric and rituals transcend those that follow them.
